Blumhouse to Continue Their Hot Streak With a Supernatural TV Series

2017 has been a good year for the Jason and the Blumhouse juggernaut. The low-budget production company brought us critically acclaimed films like M. Night Shyamalan┬┤s Split - in which we got to see James McAvoy deliver one of the most fun and impressive performances of his career - and Jordan Peele┬┤s directorial debut, the brilliant Get Out, a film that showed us that Peele not only is a comedic genius, but that he also knows how to write a smart and socially aware horror movie that got people to think and to talk about racial politics and activism. In an industry that rightfully cries out for diversity, the disturbingly current Get Out was the movie we needed. And just a few days ago it was reported that Groundhog Day-style slasher flick Happy Death Day passed $100 million worldwide.

These films are just a few of the productions that Blumhouse has been involved with this year, and with movies like Halloween and new sequels to Insidious and The Purge coming in 2018, it doesn't look like they will slow down anytime soon.

And people say that the genre is dead.

Earlier this week, Deadline reported that the Entertainment Networks Group of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment has ordered a pilot for supernatural thriller Run for Your Life, from Universal TV and Blumhouse Television. There is no denying that Mr. Blum is on a roll and we love it!

The series is based on an idea from Emmy-winning producer Lee Metzger (The Voice) and is centered on the last night of Dia de Los Muertos (aka Day of the Dead), when a grieving detective is thrust into a deadly game to bring someone back from the dead.

The pilot comes from the writer/producer team of Chris Cullari and Jennifer Raite (12 Deadly Days), who will serve as co-executive producers. Patricia Riggen (The 33) is set to direct and co-executive produce the pilot. Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Marci Wiseman and Jessica Rhoades will serve as executive producers for Blumhouse, and should the pilot be ordered to series, the network on which it would air would be determined at that time.

Keep your eyes on this page as we will report on updates for this exciting project.

Have a great weekend and don't forget to stay spooky!
