SABRINA To Cast A Deadly Spell With Netflix

Riverdale burst onto the scene last year to much chagrin from skeptical fans. It was debuting on The CW, a network known for supernatural dramas such as The Vampire Diaries and melodramatic teen soaps like One Tree Hill. Little did we know that when you mix those two together, and throw in a little dash of Twin Peaks styled weirdness, you get a show that's nothing less than riveting.

Now if you follow the comics at all, you'll know that a few years back, Archie Comics launched a new "dark" universe, an alternate reality where zombies have wreaked havoc in Afterlife with Archie, Jughead is a werewolf in Jughead: The Hunger, and everyone's favorite teenage witch is given a Lovecraftian makeover in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Chilling Adventures takes the kid friendly of version of Sabrina and rewrites her origin as one laced in a grim and gritty overtone, laced in the occult and mystic, with a distinct EC Comics vibe. Netflix has already given the show a two season order, with ten episodes each. Although The CW passed on the show due to lack of time slots, Netflix saw huge numbers from streaming Riverdale and found that many non-cable watchers believed it to be a Netflix original.

We're very excited to see what Sabrina will do when brought to life, trading out high school hijinks for fighting back magical evil, and have confidence the show will kick all kinds of ass. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is CCO of Archie Comics (as well as writer of the critically acclaimed The Town That Dreaded Sundown remake), will have penning and directing duties for the first episode. Alongside Arrowverse and television guru Greg Berlanti, the show is already in great and promising hands.

No timeline has been given yet but we'll keep you in the loop.
