Scream Factory Announce Upcoming Releases

With the recent releases of Silent Night, Deadly Night and Misery selling like hot cakes, the Criterion of horror has announced a slew of new releases hitting stores and online retailers in the coming year!

First up, we have the slasher classic Hell Night starring genre legend Linda Blair, about a group of Fraternity and sorority pledges (Linda Blair, Vincent Van Patten, Peter Barton) who spend the night in a mansion and become victims of a deranged killer, featuring a new 4K scan, new artwork, new interviews and commentary with Linda Blair and cast that clock in at over 4 hours of extras in total! Fans have been wanting this to make its Blu debut for quite some time, so keep your eyes peeled because January is right around the corner!

Sam Raimi’s delightfully ghoulish 2009 return to horror, Drag Me to Hell, makes its Scream Factory Debut on Febuary 13, this will feature both cuts of the film, and tells the story of how Christine Brown’s (Alison Lohman) heavenly life becomes flipped upside down when, in an effort to impress her boss, she denies an old woman's request for an extension on her home loan. In retaliation, she places a curse on Christine, threatening her soul with eternal damnation. Bonus content is pending so make sure to check Scream Factory’s website for details!

For its 10th anniversary (and just in time for the sequel!) 2008’s home invasion film The Strangers gets a Collector’s Edition treatment that’s slated for a March 6th release. After a 4 a.m. knock at the door and a haunting voice, Kristen McKay (Liv Tyler, The Leftovers) and James Hoyt (Scott Speedman, Underworld) are thrust into a night of psychological terror as three masked strangers invade. Faced with inscrutable tormentors, Kristen and James must go beyond what they think they're able to endure if they have any hope to survive. Bonus material information is still pending, but it has been confirmed that both cuts of the film will be included with new transfers!

Eric Roberts? James Earl Jones? Larry Cohen: Cult filmmaker extraordinaire? SOLD! King Cohen’s 1989 non-stop thrill ride The Ambulance is about Josh Baker (Eric Roberts), who one minute is meeting the woman of his dreams, and the next, he's watching her whisked away by a mysterious ambulance that never arrives at the local hospital. Doubted by the police, Josh is forced to carry on a one-man crusade that leads to a discovery more frightening than his worst fears. Extras and bonus material are still in progress, but knowing his reputation, I’m sure cinematic genius Cohen will be all over the special features!

In 2006, cult film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon was released and has since (with its clever premise and standout performances) become a genre classic, as we Meet Leslie Vernon, the next great psycho-slasher. Nathan Baesels stars as Vernon, a good-natured killing machine who invites a documentary film crew to follow him as he reminisces with his murder mentor (Scott Wilson), evades his psychiatrist/nemesis (Robert Englund), deconstructs Freudian symbolism, and meticulously plots his upcoming slaughter spree. But when the actual carnage begins, where do you draw the line between voyeuristic thrills, mythic evil, and good old-fashioned slasher movie mayhem? The special features are still pending but on top of new features, they will include all of the bonus material from the previous release and newly commissioned artwork!
