WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS Spin-off TV Series Announced
What We Do In The Shadows is a happy place movie. What started off as a hilarious short film spawned the mega hit about three everyday vampires just trying to live, learn, and love in Wellington, New Zealand. Along the way they meet werewolves, zombies, and vampire hunters as they try to live together in their shared flat. It’s whimsical, it’s gory, and its side-splittingly funny. And luckily for us, Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement are expanding the world they created back in 2005 with Wellington Paranormal.
Wellington Paranormal follows the exploits of Officer’s Karen O’Leary and Mike Mignone, followed around by a film crew, as they root out werewolves, vampires, and other supernatural spookers in the city. You may remember O’Leary and Mignone from their brief cameo in Shadows as they were charmed into not seeing the blood and carnage in the trio’s flat. The show will run for six half hour episodes in 2018 in New Zealand. Now to note this show is apart from the Shadows American Revival that Taika is reportedly working on, alongside the long gestating sequel to Shadows titled We’re Wolves. Expect Wellington Paranormal to have the same biting humor as Waititi and Clement’s other work while also opening the Shadows world up to all new directions!
Note: I highly recommend checking out the source article Stuff NZ. As they interviewed Clement, he gives kernels about what to expect, all while keeping up the appearance that this is all real. I actually had to re-read it a few times just to make sure that Taika and Clement weren’t starting their own “Ghost Adventures”-esque TV show.
