Netflix's CARGO reveals first poster and trailer!
There's a new subgenre of horror that is quietly emerging in the wake of our collective exhaustion of The Walking Dead. I'm going to call it "The Refreshing Zombie Film". Actively playing against the stereotypes we are accustomed to in the "zombie" film, this subset also pushes back against even using the word "zombie". Netflix is bringing us potentially the best of this "Refreshing Zombie" subgenre in Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howlings new film Cargo, based on the hit short film of the same name. Here we have a first look at the poster and trailer!
Cargo follows Andy (Martin Freeman) as he traverses the outback of Australia protecting his young daughter, Rosie, from a global pandemic that have left most of the country infected. Infected himself with only 48 hours before he turns, he makes his way further into the bush in hopes of finding salvation and safety with the aboriginal tribes, befriending a young girl who helps him on their way.
We have a sneaking suspicion that this film is one that would have made George A Romero proud. Cargo is premiering at Tribeca Film Festival on April 19th, and will be released on Netflix May 18th.
