SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK Has Talent In Spades, Announces Main Cast

Guillermo Del Toro is everyones favorite monster kid. He is vocal of his love of the weird, macabre and scary and wears it on his sleeve. He's obviously a busy man, with a slew of realized and unrealized projects under his belt. When it was announced that 90's darling Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, a trio of books with frightening stories accompanied by nightmare fuel art from Alvin Schwartz.

If you're a nineties kid, you grew up in the realm of Goosebumps, that's a given, but the true creepy kids dug deeper and found Alvin Schwartz's trilogy of the creepiest, truly unsettling shorts that were often based on urban legends and folklore. It was this mixture of everyday storytelling combined with sketches that haunted your dreams and black as night humor that stayed with horror fans for decades to come. When Del Toro was attached, fingers were crossed and breath was held and luckily for all of us, this is one that we can chalk down as a win.

CBS Films, along with Del Toro, have put together a line up of cast and crew that you can't help but be excited about. Behind the camera, we have Andre Ovredal, who delivered found footage masterpiece Trollhunter and sleeper horror gem The Autopsy of Jane Doe. Ovredal has proven that he is an expert at interweaving the fantastical with the phantasmagorical and he seems like a perfect fit for the picture. Behind him is a slew of creative horror folks on the script. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, the duo that worked on a number of the Saw films and The Collector franchise, have scripted the film alongside Dan and Kevin Hageman, some of the masterminds who helped bring to life breakout hit The Lego Movie. Plus, you know, Del Toro had some say in all of that too.

CBS Films has done some more rounding out now from a cast standpoint as well, announcing that "Michael Garza (Wayward PinesThe Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1), Austin Abrams (Brad’s StatusThe Americans), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise KingdomThe Grand Budapest Hotel), Austin Zajur (Fist FightKidding), and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make it PopWet Bum) have joined the cast of SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK...Inspired by one of the most terrifying book series of all time, SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK follows a group of teens who must solve the mystery surrounding a wave of spectacularly horrific deaths in their small town.  The five new cast members join the previously announced Zoe Colletti in the ensemble at the heart of the film."

That's a lot of potential right there. We are bursting with excitement and we'll keep you updated as we are updated on the exciting new project that is sure to pull at our love of nostalgia while also scaring the hell out of us.
