New Book From Grady Hendrix Arriving In September
We're huge fans of Grady Hendrix at Ghastly Grinning. So much so that when some of our editors were moderating the Shock Waves Horror Book Club Facebook group, we made the inaugural Book Of The Month Hendrix's excellent second novel My Best Friend's Exorcism. He landed on the scene with his IKEA Haunted House story HORRORSTOR, which we still hope is being developed for television from MTV, and most recently his smash hit Paperbacks from Hell, his first work of non-fiction that chronicled the rise and fall of the horror paperback novel of the 60s through the 90s. Since Paperbacks hit stands in 2017, we've seen a rise in paperback popularity with boutique stores like DiabolikDVD adding a collection of books next to their rare and hard to find DVD/BluRay selections. Grady has even been touring the country with a live version of Paperbacks from Hell, which he'll be performing at this weekends Overlook Film Festival.
According to a recent newsletter that Grady sends out regarding Paperbacks from Hell we are excited to learn that Mr. Hendrix has a brand new fiction novel coming out THIS SEPTEMBER called We Sold Our Souls. From QuirkBooks:
"In the 1990s, heavy metal band Dürt Würk was poised for breakout success -- but then lead singer Terry Hunt embarked on a solo career and rocketed to stardom as Koffin, leaving his fellow bandmates to rot in rural Pennsylvania.
Two decades later, former guitarist Kris Pulaski works as the night manager of a Best Western - she's tired, broke, and unhappy. Everything changes when she discovers a shocking secret from her heavy metal past: Turns out that Terry's meteoric rise to success may have come at the price of Kris's very soul.
This revelation prompts Kris to hit the road, reunite with the rest of her bandmates, and confront the man who ruined her life. It's a journey that will take her from the Pennsylvania rust belt to a Satanic rehab center and finally to a Las Vegas music festival that's darker than any Mordor Tolkien could imagine. A furious power ballad about never giving up, even in the face of overwhelming odds, We Sold Our Souls is an epic journey into the heart of a conspiracy-crazed, paranoid country that seems to have lost its very soul...where only a girl with a guitar can save us all."
Fuck. Yes. We are SO in. It sounds like a ripe mix of Trick Or Treat and Deathgasm style Metal Horror and the creep of Satanic Panic from the 80s into the early 90s. We're beyond excited for what it sure to be another entertaining, touching, and terrifying new book from Grady Hendrix. Check out this definitely NOT FINAL cover art for the book and make sure to pick up a copy when it hits stores on September 18th, 2018!
