THE GOLEM is the First Original Production for Dread Central Presents!
We're big fans of Rob Galluzzo and the ever growing (and fan favorite!) new label Dread Central Presents, and we are gobsmacked with excitement to learn today that they are releasing their first ORIGINAL production!
Deadline reports that The Golem, from Doron and Yoav Paz, creators of the found footage flick Jeruzalem (starring Yael Groblas from Jane The Virgin!), has been unveiled as the first original production from the Dread Central Presents label with Shaked Berenson and Patrick Ewald, Epic Pictures founders, serving as executive producer.
Taking inspiration from the folk tale The Golem, which saw success in the early days of film with 1920's The Golem: How He Came into the World by Paul Wegener and Henrik Galeen and in 1936 from acclaimed French director Julien Duvivier (Pepe le Moko). From Deadline:
"The horror is a re-imagining of the old mystical folklore that follows a woman and a tight-knit Jewish community that is besieged by foreign invaders. She conjures a dangerous creature to protect them but it may be more evil than she ever imagined."
In a time of political and civil unrest across the globe, I honestly couldn't think of a more apt story to bring to the screen now. Horror has a way of helping us have catharsis in the face of turmoil, and The Golem could very well continue that trend. The film was shot in secret late last year with a slated release for February 2019! Keep your eyes peeled here for more Golem Goodness!
