ARROW VIDEO FRIGHTFEST 2018 Announces Record Breaking 19th Year Lineup
The world-renowned Arrow Video FrightFest horror and fantasy film festival returns to the heart of London’s West End for its 19th edition, turbo-charging into the Cineworld Leicester Square and The Prince Charles Cinema from Aug 23–Aug 27, 2018 and hosting a record-breaking 70 films from 18 countries and 6 continents. The five-day fear-a-thon includes 20 world, 17 European, and 22 U.K. premieres.
The opening night attraction is the U.K. premiere of The Ranger, Jenn Wexler’s impressive directorial debut feature that has been winning raves during its festival run. This explosive, post-modern slasher features a kick-ass punk rock soundtrack and a knock-out lead performance from Chloe Levin (The Transfiguration). Wexler, the first female director to open FrightFest, will be attending, and said, “We are honoured and thrilled to be selected as this year’s opening night film. I made The Ranger because I love punk rock and ‘80s horror. We can’t wait to share it with fans in the city, where punk has its roots, at one of the world’s best genre festivals." Having seen The Ranger at a film festival this summer, I can attest that this movie is a true crowd-pleaser.
Bringing the festival to a fitting conclusion is the U.K. premiere of Gaspar Noé’s Climax, courtesy of FrightFest’s headline sponsors Arrow Video. According to the fest’s press release, “This film finds the incorrigible Irreversible wild child at the peak of his confrontational and hypnotically mesmerising powers. Based on true events, this throbbing whirling dervish is Noé’s Disco Inferno via Dante’s.”
Other highlights include the Australian creature feature Boar; Summer of ‘84, the highly anticipated second feature from the trio who made Turbo Kid; two Barbara Crampton vehicles, Dead Night and Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich; the Italian Twilight-Zone-meets-Mario-Bava existential creepfest The LaPlace’s Demon, and much more.
