LIZZIE Poster And Trailer Reveal An Alternate History To The Notorious Killer
Serial killers are kind of a thing. I don't quite understand the fascination with it (my wife is obsessed) but we all know the most famous of the famous. Ted Bundy. Charles Manson. Jeffrey Dahmer. Lots of men.
When it comes to notorious, though, only one killer has a famous rhyme created about them.
Lizzie Borden took an axe
Gave her mother forty whacks
When he saw what she had done
Gave her father forty one.
It's some pretty messed up stuff. The story of Lizzie Borden has become a worldwide historical phenomena, the story of a woman who eventually lost it and hacked her parents to death with an axe. Now, director William Macneill, who helmed parts of Channel Zero: Candle Cove has enlisted Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart to once again bring the story to life. Sevigny plays the titular Lizzie, while Kristen Stewart is taking up the role of Bridget Sullivan, the housemaid of the Borden's, who was in actuality the last one to see them alive. In Macneill's film, Borden and Sullivan hide a secret romance that is entrapped among the grisly murders that occurred.
Also, GOD DAMN, that's a lot of talent in one project.
Check out the trailer and official synopsis below. Lizzie is being released by Saban Films and Roadside Attractions in theaters on September 14th, 2018.
Academy Award® nominee Chloë Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry, “Big Love”) stars as Lizzie Borden, the notorious woman at the heart of one of the most enduring mysteries in American history. After a lifetime of loneliness, Lizzie finds a kindred spirit in housemaid Bridget Sullivan (Kristen Stewart) and their secret intimacy sparks an unthinkable act. Director Craig William Macneill (The Boy (2015), “Channel Zero: Candle Cove”) explores the days leading up to the savage crimes in a dark tale of repression, exploitation and thwarted dreams.
