Ghastly Gaming Hour of Horror: RESIDENT EVIL 7...in VR!

As I have explained before in various other pieces I’ve written, Resident Evil is my favorite game series of all time. Nothing has ever topped the experiences of playing the original Playstation trilogy in my dark room late at night when I was a young lad, and my obsession with the series has only increased over the years. The series did hit a rough patch for me when they decided to push away from the horror angle and go the full-on action route with Resident Evil 5 and its co-op gameplay mechanic and bombastic action sequences. This ended up culminating with the horrendous, absurd and just plain bad Resident Evil 6. My heart shattered after the release of RE6 and I was starting to think the series’ best days were behind them. Then Capcom surprised us all with the shadow drop bomb of Resident Evil 7 at the Sony E3 2016 conference, and I couldn’t have been more jubilated. Resident Evil 7 had a quick turnaround after the initial reveal, launching in January 2017 to accolades from the critical and consumers alike and performed above expectations in terms of sales for Capcom. The big change to this soft reboot of the series, outside of it switching to a 1st person view, was that the game was playable in Playstation VR from beginning to end. I beat the game a few times in non-VR, but only ventured a couple of hours into a VR playthrough before setting it aside as more new releases started to pour in that year and demand my attention. Now it’s time to go back. Join me as I venture through the 2nd major location of Resident Evil 7, The Old House, and attempt to bring down the matriarch of the Baker family, Marguerite, all while avoiding ghoulish monsters, incessant bugs and solve a few puzzles along the way. This is my FIRST time going through this part of the game in VR, so prepare for some slow gaming and general unease as I traverse this unsettling environment. I hope I survive this…
