Blumhouse Brings Horror Fans An Early Xmas Gift, Announce New BLACK CHRISTMAS
Blumhouse is a titan in the horror industry. No one can argue that anymore, whether you enjoy their product or not. They’ve been building the “Wan-iverse” for years as well as ushering in the Age of Peele and creating interesting and eclectic content in smaller form media with numerous titles headed to Netflix and their Hulu venture, Into the Dark.
It was a big play when Blumhouse decided to tackle Halloween. We’re talking about the granddaddy of slasher films, one of the most important and influential films in horror history. It went off like gangbusters. Even if you personally didn’t love, it was almost universally acclaimed and made fistfuls of cash. It was exciting for numerous reasons. A return to a franchise we had missed. Comedy directors creating such a finely tuned slasher. Most importantly, the idea of Blumhouse picking up some discarded, but much beloved, franchises.
That’s exactly what is happening. Blumhouse surprise announced a new Black Christmas today. Outside of Halloween, Black Christmas is often cited as one of the most important and influential slashers of all time. To say this news is exciting is a bit of an understatement.
It doesn’t end there. The talent attached to the project is off the charts. Imogen Poots (Fright Night) will be leading the cast which also includes Brittany O’Grady (Star), Lily Donoghue (The Goldbergs), Aleyse Shannon (Charmed) and Caleb Eberhardt (The Post). To top it off, April Wolfe and Sophia Takal co-wrote the feature while Takal is also helming the film. If you haven’t yet, check out her extremely well done New Year, New You from Hulu. We can’t wait to share more news with you all, the film is swiftly headed our way, dropping this year on December 13th. (Yes, that’s a Friday.)
